Geared Up For The Season

As summer officially begins and the Sierra continues to open up, we’ve been busy behind the scenes getting ready for the season ahead. This month, we’re leaning into one of the most important parts of any wilderness trip: the gear that carries us, shelters us, keeps us warm, and helps us move through the mountains with confidence.

At Axis Wild Expeditions, we believe good gear isn’t about having the fanciest setup or the newest thing on the market. It’s about having equipment that works well, fits properly, holds up in the backcountry, and helps you feel more comfortable and capable outside.

This season, we’re excited to share that we’ve acquired a full fleet of client backpacking and basecamp/horsepack gear, including sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tents, backpacks, day packs, and trekking poles. Whether you’re joining us for your first backpacking trip or simply don’t want to invest in a full gear setup just yet, we’ll have quality equipment available to help you get out there.

Why Gear Matters

The right gear can make a huge difference in the backcountry. A properly fitted pack can make the miles feel smoother. A warm sleeping bag and comfortable pad can turn a chilly mountain night into deep rest. Trekking poles can help with balance, rhythm, and knee support. A good tent becomes your little home in the wilderness.

But gear is only part of the equation. Knowing how to use it, pack it, adjust it, and care for it is just as important.

That’s where guided trips can be especially helpful. We don’t just hand you a packing list and send you on your way. We help you understand what you’re carrying, why it matters, and how to use it in a way that supports your comfort, safety, and confidence on the trail.

New Gear for the 2026 Season

For many people, one of the biggest barriers to backpacking is the cost and overwhelm of buying all the gear upfront. Our hope is that by providing access to quality gear, we can make these trips feel more approachable and help more people experience the beauty, challenge, and joy of traveling through wild places.

We’re thrilled to offer access to essential backpacking and basecamp gear for AWE guests. Below is a look at our current 2026 inventory.

As we step into summer, all of this gear represents more than equipment — it represents preparation, care, and the intention behind every Axis Wild Expeditions trip. Our goal is to help guests feel supported before they ever set foot on the trail, so when the journey begins, they can focus less on the overwhelm and more on the experience itself: the rhythm of the miles, the comfort of camp, the beauty of alpine lakes, and the simple joy of being outside. The gear is ready, the season is here, and we can’t wait to put it all to use in the High Sierra. See you out there.
