The Mariposa Grove: Among the Giant Sequoias

Walk Among Yosemite’s Largest Grove of Giant Sequoias

Step into a living cathedral of towering giants on this guided journey through the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias in Yosemite National Park. Home to more than 500 mature sequoias, this landscape invites you to slow down and experience the quiet power of some of the largest and oldest living organisms on Earth. As we wind along forested trails, you’ll stand beneath legendary trees like the Grizzly Giant and the California Tunnel Treeβ€”where a passage carved through a standing sequoia offers a glimpse into a different era of human interaction with these giants.

Beyond their immense scale, the story of this grove is one of resilience, renewal, and protection. In 1864, this area became part of the Yosemite Land Grantβ€”one of the first federally protected parcels of land in the United Statesβ€”laying the foundation for the national park system. Along the way, we’ll explore the essential role of fire in sequoia ecology, from fire-scarred trunks to the regeneration it makes possible, revealing how these ancient trees depend on natural cycles to endure.

This experience is more than a walk through iconic sceneryβ€”it’s an invitation to connect more deeply with the rhythms of the natural world. Moving at your own pace, we’ll take time to pause, observe, and appreciate the subtle details of the forest. Fully customizable and thoughtfully guided, this journey offers both a peaceful escape and a meaningful encounter with Yosemite’s ancient heart.
